Different colours hold different meanings, and this will be an important factor in this short film. So the four main colours that I have selected as being important are Orange, Blue, Green and White, but will also include a small amount of Purple. So what do they mean?
Orange: Orange is the mix between red and yellow. The red element brings energy as red is the colour of desire and strength. Yellow is the colour of happiness and intelligence, so is quite a bright and joyful colour. I selected Orange because of this. Orange is an upbeat colour, one of enthusiasm, creativity, determination and happiness and is a good medium between the two colours. So it stands out, but it's not too 'in-your-face', while at the same time it doesn't blend into the background like yellow can.
Blue: Blue is the colour of the sky and the sea. It represent both stability and spirituality. Blue is an interesting colour, as it can represent high-tech society and futuristic elements. Which is why more often than not you will see blue in science fiction films. This is due to the fact that it has links with intelligence, but also with cleanliness. Although it does depend on the shade of blue, for example, a light blue is linked with health and tranquility while a darker blue is linked with power and seriousness.
Green: The stable colour of green is the symbol of growth and fertility. Green is the colour of nature, when you think of Earth I would imagine it would be one of the first colours to appear in your head. The shade of green that I am intending on using is a light or mid green, something which isn't too dark. Dark green is linked in with money, and therefore greed, not the message I want to portray. Lighter green promote a message of freshness, which is important when making people feel better.
White: White is the symbol of purity and innocence, which is usually why you will see angels dressed all in white. It symbolizes perfection but also cleanliness, much like with blue. If something is pure white your mind will assume that the object is sterile and clean, especially nowadays when associate the colour with hospitals and doctors.
Purple: Purple is one of my favourite colours. It combines the energies surrounding red and also the stability that comes with blue. It symbolizes royalty and extravagance, as well as independence and creativity. Purple isn't one of the more common colours in nature, many even consider the colour to an artificial colour. It may for this reason why the colour is is linked in with mystery and magic.
Colour Wheel Pro is where I got the information from. Its a good site for finding out the meanings of the main colours we see around us.
